Welcome to the Second Issue of the Corporate Europe Observer We start this issue with a first report on CEO's attempts to get access to correspondence between EU Commission officials and members of the European Roundtable of Industrialists. Until now the experience has been disillusioning.
During the last days of September hundreds of business leaders from across the world and representatives of international organizations, discussed the future of the global economy at the Geneva Business Dialogue. We bring you an inside report on how International Chambers of Commerce president Helmut Maucher used this event to strengthen links between his organization and international institutions like the UN and the WTO.
We follow with an update on the Multilateral Agreement on Investments (MAI): Is Business Leaving a Sinking MAI?
The lead article is followed by a briefing on EU Commissioner Sir Leon Brittan's latest push for transatlantic free trade, the Transatlantic Economic Partnership, and an update on the Transatlantic Business Dialogue.
We continue our series on the European PR industry with a first hand report from a conference with the sinister-sounding title Pressure Politics: Industry's Response to the Pressure Group Challenge, and start a series on European think tanks with a short profile of the European Policy Centre.
